Wagering Requirements in Bitcoin: 10x to 40x in BTC and €

A wagering requirement is how many times you need to wager a bonus before you can withdraw it. It is written as a multiple, such as 40x. On a Bitcoin bonus the sum is done in BTC. For example, a 0.001 BTC bonus at 40x requires a total of 0.04 BTC in bets. This page shows the cost of the multiple in euro and details other important rules.

The short answer

40x means bets worth 40 times the bonus. A 0.001 BTC bonus needs 0.04 BTC of bets, about €3,063.
The bets cost money on average. On slots that pay back 96%, 40x costs more than the bonus is worth.
25x is the break-even point on those slots. Below it a bonus is worth taking on average. Above it, it is a paid-for extra.
The multiple is one rule of five. What it is counted on, which games count, the maximum bet and the time limit matter as much.
On a Bitcoin balance the target is fixed in BTC. Its euro value moves with the price while you play.

What wagering requirements in Bitcoin mean

Wagering requirements in Bitcoin: a 0.001 BTC bonus with 40x wagering needs 0.04 BTC of bets and costs 0.0016 BTC on average at a 4% house edge — A 100% bonus on a 0.001 BTC deposit, followed through 40x wagering.

Let's say you deposit 0.001 BTC and the casino matches it. You now have 0.002 BTC to play with, but the bonus half is locked. To unlock it at 40x, you must place bets that add up to 0.04 BTC.

Bets placed does not equal money lost. If you win a bet, that money is put back on the line to bet again, so the money passes through the game many times.

Each pass has a cost, though. A slot that pays back 96% keeps 4% of every bet on average. Put 0.04 BTC through it and the average cost is 0.0016 BTC. The bonus was 0.001 BTC.

Divide 100 by the house edge to get the break-even multiple. A game with a house edge of 4% is 25x. A game with a house edge of 3% is 33x.

These are averages over a large number of players. Slots can swing hard, so a few players end up making the wager with a large chip stack, and most end up making the wager with nothing. So a fair way to read a 40x bonus is as extra playing time that you pay for.

Two different bonuses can both say 40x and ask for different amounts. The most important thing is to find the wording that follows the number. They can say "the bonus", "the deposit" or "the deposit and bonus."

Free spin winnings are often added to the base. At HellSpin and Slots Gallery, whatever the spins win, you must wager it 40 times.

One casino will not tell you in advance. Vave's bonus terms say wagering requirements will be displayed in the bonus card after you claim the bonus. A requirement you cannot read before making a deposit is a good reason to ask live chat first, or to not claim it at all.

Each bet only moves the meter by its weighting. At 5%, a €100 blackjack bet at 7Bit counts as €5. So for that game, the 35x requirement becomes 700x.

Casinos weight different games based on how much you can lose per spin. Slots, which keep the majority, count in full. Blackjack and a casino's own dice games, which keep little, count for little or nothing. Metaspins counts its Originals at 0%.

Some slots are left out by name too. Slots Gallery puts a "Bonus wagering" tab in their lobby that lists the games that count. Use one of those when a casino gives you a list.

While a bonus is active you are not supposed to bet over a limit. Go over it once and the casino can rescind the bonus and what you won with it. A bet over the limit may still go through, and the check often comes later, when you ask to withdraw.

The limit sets how long the wagering takes. Clearing €100 at 35x with a €1 maximum is at least 3,500 spins, at 40x with a €5 maximum it is at least 800.

Watch the unit. Slots Gallery writes its limit as €5 or 0.0001 BTC. With €76,568 per BTC, 0.0001 BTC is €7.66 and that euro figure changes every day. The daily crypto bonus has a tighter limit of 0.0000422 BTC, about €3.23.

Betpanda does it another way. Bets above €50 a round simply don't count towards the 40x.

Time limits on wagering requirements

Divide the bets needed by the days you have. A 0.001 BTC bonus at 40x in 5 days is 0.008 BTC of bets a day, about €613. Over 14 days at 35x it is 0.0025 BTC a day, about €191.

When the time limit is up on a bonus, the bonus is removed, and so is any winnings from it. If the daily figure is more than you would play anyway, the bonus is pushing you to play more. That is the moment to turn it down.

What a Bitcoin price move does to wagering

Balance held in BTC

The bonus and the target are both fixed in Bitcoin. A 0.001 BTC bonus at 40x needs 0.04 BTC of bets, whatever the price does that week.

In euro, everything moves together. If Bitcoin rises 10%, the bonus is worth 10% more, and so are the bets you still have to place.

So the sum stays the same and its euro value shifts.

Balance held in euro or dollars

Your Bitcoin is converted when it arrives. From then on the bonus and the target are fixed in that currency.

A price move during the week does not touch your balance. It matters again at the end, when the payout is turned back into Bitcoin at the new rate.

So check the currency beside your balance before you deposit.

What does a 40x wagering requirement mean?

To make a bonus cash you have to place bets 40 times the bonus. A 0.001 BTC bonus would require you to place bets worth 0.04 BTC. A €100 bonus would require you to place bets worth €4,000.

What does a 10x wagering requirement mean?

The bets must be 10 times the bonus. For a 0.001 BTC bonus this would require you to place bets worth 0.01 BTC, about €766. On 96% slots this would equate to about €31 on average, and is less than the value of the bonus.

What does a 30x wagering requirement mean?

The bets must be 30 times the bonus. This means that for a 0.001 BTC bonus you must place bets worth 0.03 BTC, about €2,297. On 96% slots this would mean that you must place about €92 on average, which is more than the bonus is worth.

How do I clear my wagering requirements?

Choose games that count 100%, keep every bet under the maximum and finish within the time frame. Determine how much you must bet each day before you start. If this amount is more than you are willing to bet, do not take the bonus.

Are wagering requirements different in Bitcoin?

The rule is the same. The unit changes. On a Bitcoin balance the bonus, the target and sometimes the maximum bet are fixed in BTC, so their euro value rises and falls with the price over the time period you need to clear them.

Do I lose the amount I have to wager?

No. Wagering requires bets to be placed. Wins come back to your balance, and are bet again. What you lose on average is the house edge on those bets, which is around 4% on a typical slot.

Do I have to wager my deposit as well?

There are no tricks that change the numbers. Things that help are placing low multiples, slots that have a high payout percentage that count 100%, and bets inside the maximum. A bonus above 25x on a 96% slot loses money on average, no matter how you play it.
